Series I own but haven’t read yet
Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this... does anyone else buy an entire series before they've even read the first book? 😅 There's something about seeing a beautiful completed set on my bookshelf that convinces me, "I'll definitely get to these soon." And then... months (or years) go by.
Right now, these are the unread series patiently waiting on my shelves: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, The Ruinous Love Trilogy by Brynne Weaver, Middle-earth by J.R.R. Tolkien, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, The Folk of the Air by Holly Black, and The Ever Seas by L.J. Andrews.
If I had to guess why I've been avoiding some of them, it's probably because they're all a bit intimidating in different ways. Throne of Glass and A Song of Ice and Fire are huge commitments, and I tend to reach for books that give me quicker emotional payoffs. Middle-earth is legendary, but I know Tolkien's slower, more descriptive writing style will require the right mood. Six of Crows and The Folk of the Air have been recommended to me countless times, but maybe all the hype has made me nervous they'll never live up to my expectations.
Then there are The Ever Seas and The Ruinous Love Trilogy, which honestly feel the most "me" on paper. They seem to check so many of the boxes I already love—romance, fantasy, high stakes, and morally gray characters—so I'm surprised they've stayed unread for this long.
So now I need your help. Which series deserves to jump to the top of my TBR? Which one absolutely lives up to the hype... and which one can wait a little longer?
