Luckily, there are plenty of books that capture that same feeling.

If Gilmore Girls had a little more spice and a lot more pumpkin spice lattes, it might look something like The Pumpkin Spice Café. Set in the charming small town of Dream Harbor, this book has all the cozy small-town ingredients: quirky townspeople who know everyone's business, a cute café, seasonal festivities, and a romance developing right in the middle of it all. Jeanie arrives in town to take over her aunt's café, while Logan is the grumpy local farmer who would generally prefer to be left alone. Naturally, the town has other plans for them. The biggest Gilmore Girls connection is the small-town community feeling. Dream Harbor is the kind of place where everyone knows everyone, everyone has an opinion about your love life, and you can't walk down the street without running into someone you know. Add in coffee, autumn, romance, and a charming town full of meddling characters, and this one practically begs to be read with a mug of something warm.

📖 A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston

If Rory Gilmore could magically step inside one of her favorite books, I imagine she'd have a lot of feelings about A Novel Love Story. Eileen Merriweather is a book lover who finds herself unexpectedly transported into the fictional world of her favorite romance series. The result is a story that feels like a love letter to people who don't just read books—they genuinely live in them. That makes it especially Gilmore Girls-coded because Rory's identity is so deeply tied to reading and the stories she loves. There's also that same slightly whimsical, nostalgic feeling that runs through so much of Gilmore Girls: the idea that books and fictional worlds can become places we feel like we belong. If you love Rory's bookish personality, her love of literature, and the feeling of escaping into a story, this one is a must-read.

At first glance, Beach Read might seem like an odd choice for a Gilmore Girls list because, well… there isn't much beach in Stars Hollow. 😂 But the relationship dynamics are what make this one fit. January Andrews is a romance author who finds herself living next door to her college rival, Augustus Everett, after returning to the lake house she inherited from her father. They challenge each other to write outside their usual genres, which leads to plenty of banter, complicated feelings, and emotional revelations. And while Beach Read is definitely more adult and emotionally complex than Gilmore Girls, it has that same combination of quick-witted dialogue, complicated family relationships, romance, and characters who are constantly trying to figure themselves out. Plus, January's relationship with her father and the way she processes her childhood add a layer of family complexity that feels very at home in the Gilmore Girls universe.

💻 Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

If Rory had gone to college and spent a little more time online, she might have been Cath from Fangirl. Cath is a socially anxious, incredibly bookish college freshman who spends most of her free time writing fanfiction about her favorite fictional series. She'd much rather stay in her room with her laptop and her stories than navigate the terrifying world of college social life. What makes this feel so Gilmore Girls is the bookish, slightly awkward, academically driven heroine at the center of it. Cath and Rory share that intense relationship with stories and writing, but Fangirl also explores growing up, figuring out who you are outside of your family, and learning how to navigate relationships when you're no longer in the comfortable environment you've always known. It's basically the college-era coming-of-age story for anyone who loved watching Rory grow up.

💕 Just Friends by Haley Pham

Just Friends brings a more contemporary, youthful version of the Gilmore Girls feeling to the list. At its heart, it's about friendship, romance, and that messy period of life when you're trying to figure out what you actually want while simultaneously navigating complicated feelings for someone you're supposed to be "just friends" with.
