Everything I hope to read in January

TBR stands for To Be Read. And this list encompasses everything I’m planning to read in January 2026. I average about 9 books a month, so this TBR might be a little ambitious.

Bluebird Gold, Devney Perry

This book came out on December 30, so it’s high on my want to read list because I love to get in on the action as soon as a book releases if I can. I am a huge Devney Perry fan. Her fantasy debut last year was one of my top three books of the entire year. This is a new interconnected standalone romance series she’s starting with a fresh new location, characters, and plot line.

The Cursed Queen's Daughter (Thirswood series, 2), Elly Blake

I read the the first in this series late last year, and then was approved for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book before it’s published on February 12. Meaning, I NEED to read this in order to provide my feedback and write my review before the publish date.

Assistant to the Villain (Assistant to the Villain, 1), Hannah Nicole Maehrer

This book has been downloaded on my kindle for months (it’s on Kindle Unlimited), but I haven’t officially put it on my TBR until now. The reason I’m truly reading it this month is because my local library has picked it as their book club pick of the month. To say I’m thrilled to finally have a reason for adding this to my TBR is an understatement. I can’t wait!!

Brimstone (Fae & Alchemy, 2), Callie Hart

My bookclub read this book as our November pick, and then this book—the second in the series—came out in the middle of that month. It’s been on my TBR in November, December, and now January. Who thinks I’ll finally have the guts to dive into this one??

The Silversmith (The Selvaren, 1), L.J. Claren

Speaking of book clubs… this is my book club’s pick for this month. This is an independently published book which is SUPER cool to be reading as a club. We selected this book at our book club dinner outing in December by all putting two recommendations into a cup and then passing around the cup one at a time until the last slip of paper left was the one we were going to read.

Woman Down, Colleen Hoover

This book comes out on January 13th which is why I put it on my TBR. I loved Colleen Hoover for getting me back into reading, but now I’m not so sure. I haven’t read anything recently by her, so it’ll be interesting to give this one a try. I feel like she can be a very polarizing author at the moment.

I’m Glad My Mom Died, Janette McCurdy

This is my audiobook pick for the month. Janette McCurdy has another book (her first fiction debut) coming out soon so I figured it was time to listen to her narriate her own memoir.

Fearless (The Powerless Trilogy, 3), Lauren Roberts

Here’s another example of a book I’ve put on my TBR month after month every since it’s release date last summer. Do we think this is the month I’ll finally get to it? I loved book one in the series, but book two didn’t really hit for me. So I’m kind of scared to get into this one.

A library book!!!

One of my goals for 2026 is to read more from the library. I actually support the library quite a bit by using Libby to get ebooks for my kindle. I like to own my book “trophies” and put them on my shelf once I’ve finished a book. But honestly, my wallet hasn’t been too happy about that lately. Which is why this year I’m making an effort to pick up at least one library book a month that maybe I haven’t heard of before or that I know I have no desire to own.

Re-read The Sheppard King Duology, Rachel Gillig

Another goal of mine this year is to re-read a book I love. I actually think I am going to have a couple of chance to re-read quite a few of my favorite books as the series continue this year and new books are released that I need a refresher on. Anyways, One Dark Window, which is the first book in The Sheppard King Duology, won my favorite book of the year in 2025; therefore, I’m definitely going to be making time to re-read this one.

What’s on your TBR this month?
