Meet Rachel | Blogger Series

There are so many different niches and branches of blogging, and its surprising how big this community of blogger really is! To quote an earlier post of mine, "There are food blogs and movie blogs, mom blogs and blogging blogs, blogs about crafting and blogs about video games...the list goes on and on." Today I have a special guest here who is going to talk all about her life as a yogi+blogger.

Meet Rachel!

First off, tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

Hi! I'm Rachel and I write a yoga blog called Alive in the Fire. I believe that when we are quiet, we begin to see everything with love. Sitting down to write for Alive in the Fire gives me a chance to find that peaceful, quiet place within-- just like when I step onto my yoga mat. I blog about yoga (not only the postures but also living a yogic life), meditation, Reiki, love, hugs, finding happiness, and my life in California. I also post on FacebookInstagram and Twitter and am grateful to have created an inspiring community of yogis through my blog.

What inspired you to start blogging originally?

I started my blog as a way to reflect on my personal yoga practice. I wanted to share what it felt like to take classes, what funny things I'd see at the yoga studio, and why it mattered to me-- how yoga was helping me battle anxiety and depression. In time, writing would also help me discover my path as a yoga teacher and give me an outlet for sharing my experiences as a teacher.

How did you get where you are?

Perseverance. Remembering to breathe. Child's pose. Hugs from friends and family who love me. And all the encouragement and support from readers all over along the way.

What do you hope to achieve with your blog?

Alive in the Fire is a way to share love, to inspire people, and to make yoga approachable. In many ways, too, it is a way for me to remind others that no matter what they're going through in life, they're not alone and they'll be OK. My goal for 2016 is to make my seva project, Sponsored Yogis, an incredibly life-changing experience for the participants. Ever since I started this program five years ago, I've been choosing yogis around the country to support in their yoga journey. I offer them a chance to write about their experiences and share stories on the blog, I send them cool yoga gear and sometimes a massage or a mat or a distance Reiki healing session, and I provide ongoing support so that they can dive deeper into their practice. This year I want to keep growing the program so that it has a profound impact and helps change the lives of others for the better, and so that it shows how yoga is an act of selfless service, not just the ability to do downward dog.

How has blogging changed your life?

Blogging has helped me know myself better, use my voice, understand what Yoga means to me and how grateful I am for it, and share love with those around me. I love blogging and am so thankful for Alive in the Fire and all those who support it!
